Black musli-Harvest and storage

Black musli is normally harvested after seven months. Production of secondary rhizomes starts from fourth month. The above ground portion dries up at the time of harvest.

If is not harvested during the current year, it will put forth new shoots at the onset of next monsoon. The plant can thus remain as a perennial.

Harvesting is done by digging out the rhizomes. The shoot portion and the roots are removed and the separated rhizomes are cleaned.

Rhizomes are sliced to 1 cm size, dried in sun and marketed or stored in gunny bags. The dried rhizome recovery is 35-45 per cent.
