Chilli- Variety information

Anugraha: Developed from College of Horticulture, Vellanikkara of KAU. High yielding, early maturing, bacterial wilt resistant chilli variety. Plants are of medium stature with attractive long green medium pungent fruits, which turn deep red on ripening. Average fruit weight is 3.6 g. Average yield is 27 t/ha.

Jwala: It is a high yielding variety released from the Kerala Agricultural University.

Jwalamukhi: Released from College of Agriculture, Vellayani of KAU. Green fruits and less pungent. Suitable for cultivation in southern districts of Kerala. Average yield 22.5 t/ha.

Jwalasakhi: Released from College of Agriculture, Vellayani of KAU. Crop duration 4-5 months. Fruits are light green in colour and it is a less pungent variety. Suitable for cultivation in southern districts of Kerala. Average yield is 20 t/ha.

K-2: High yielding variety. The plants are erect with a height of 90.2 cm. The pods are green when unripe and turns to red at ripening with firmly attached calyx, compressed base and pointed beak. It yields 1.9 tonnes of dry pods in crop duration of 210 days. The length and girth of pod is 7.0 and 4.0 cm respectively.

Keerthi: It is a variety developed from RARS, Pattambi. It is a mosaic tolerant variety. The fruits are green coloured semi wrinkled and pendant. The fruit length 10-12 cm.

Pant C-1: High yielding variety. Fruits erect, small- sized, highly pungent. Yield) 12q/ha (dry). Tolerant to mosaic and leaf-curl virus

Ujwala: Developed from College of Horticulture, Vellanikkara of KAU. Dark green fruits that turn dark brown on ripening, 6 cm in length and borne in bunches. Suitable for making green chilli and for drying purpose. High pungent variety, suitable for extraction of oleoresins and colouring pigments. Resistant to mosaic and leaf roller attack. Bacterial wilt reistant variety.

Vellayani Athulya: Developed from College of Agriculture, Vellayani. It is a shade tolerant kanthari type of variety. It is recommended for southern zone of Kerala. The variety is tolerant to shade. Yield 32 t/ha of green chilli.

Vellayani Samrudhi: Developed from College of Agriculture, Vellayani. It is a shade tolerant kanthari type of variety. It is recommended for southern zone of Kerala. The variety is tolerant to shade. Yield 27t/ha of green chilli.

Vellayani Tejus: The variety is developed from COA, Vellayani. It is a shade-tolerant chilli variety with highly pungent medium sized fruits. High oleoresin and capsaicin content.Average fruit weight 7.78 gram. Plants are perennial in nature with long fruiting period. Potential yield comes to 30 tone/ha.
