Gooseberry- Planting activities

Gooseberry is propagated by seeds and by wedge grafting. The ideal time of planting is July-August. Around 60 plants can be grown in an acre.

The seeds can be extracted by sun drying ripe fruits for about 2-3 days. The seeds are enclosed in a hard seed coat. This makes the germination process difficult.

One year old seedlings are planted. Pits of 1x1x1m size are made at a spacing of 8 m x 8 m two months prior to planting. The pits are filled with well rotten farmyard manure along with top soil

One year old seedlings are planted in pits and soil is pressed around. Irrigate the plants initially for establishment.
