Guava-Inter cultivation

Pruning is an important operation in guava. Young trees require pruning several times a year to prevent the formation of long and slender branches.

The fertilizers for guava have to be applied in May-June and September-October.

Dried twigs and branches have to be removed and the cut ends may be applied with Bordeaux paste.

During initial years, all flowers should be removed to make the framework strong. Similarly, removal of suckers arising from the base of the trunk is very much important.

The tips of 10-12 cm lengths of past seasons shoots are pruned during September and February every year to encourage more laterals. Fruit are borne on new growth. So pruned trees give large fruits and show early ripening.

Guava though can withstand drought, it responds to irrigation at interval of 10 days.
