Coconut at 3rd Year Onwards

The nutrient recommendation for high yielding coconut variety grown under irrigated condition at 3rd Year onwards is 1000:500:2000 gram NPK/plant.

The quantity of straight fertilizers to get the above dose is worked out.The fertilizers dose needed is 2170 gram urea, 2775 gram rock phosphate and 3340 gram Muriate of Potash respectively per plant. The fertilizers have to be applied in split doses.

The first split has to be applied in April-June. The urea, rock phosphate, Muriate of Potash needed at this time is 723 gram, 925 gram, 1113 gram respectively per plant.

The second dose has to apply in September-October and the dosage is 1446 gram urea, 1850 gram rock phosphate, 2226 gram Muriate of Potash respectively.

Organic manure @ 25 kg/plant is recommended in ever year. Lime or dolomite has to be applied in acid soils two weeks ahead of fertilizer application.

For palms yielding more than 100 nuts per year, an additional dose of 10 g N, 5 g P₂O₅ and 15 g K₂O may be supplied for every nut exceeding 100 nuts. That means you need to apply 22 gram urea, 25 gram rock phosphate and 25 gram Muriate of Potash respectively for every additional nuts from 100.

Under irrigated conditions, the fertilizers can be applied in 3-4 equal split doses. In the case of low lying areas, apply fertilizer after water table recedes in one single dose or in two split doses as conditions permit.

Apply fertilizers and manures in circular basins at a radius of 2.0 m from the base of the palm and 10 cm deep, opened after the onset of southwest monsoon. Split doses can be applied with irrigation water in summer months.

The first split has to be applied in April-June. The urea, rock phosphate, Muriate of Potash needed at this time is 482 gram, 616 gram, 742 gram respectively per plant.

The second dose has to apply in September-October and the dosage is 964 gram urea, 1233 gram rock phosphate, 1484 gram Muriate of Potash respectively.

The first split has to be applied in April-June. The urea, rock phosphate, Muriate of Potash needed at this time is 241 gram, 308 gram, 371 gram respectively per plant.

The second dose has to apply in September-October and the dosage is 482 gram urea, 616 gram rock phosphate, 742 gram Muriate of Potash respectively.
