Oil palm- Planting activities

Oil palm is propagated through seeds. Around 60 plants can be accommodated in an acre.

Seed treatment is necessary for germination. Sprouts are planted to polybag 10 to 14 days after germination. The best time of planting is May-June. Around one year old seedlings raised in polybags are used for planting in main field.

Pits of 60 cm x 60 cm x 60 cm are made. The triangular method of planting is preferred to accommodate more plants. The recommended spacing is 9 m

The seedlings are planted after removing the polythene bag and retaining the entire ball of earth.
