Carrot- Planting activities

Carrot is propagated through seeds. The recommended seed rate is 2 to 2.4 kg/acre. The best season of planting is August to November and January in high ranges.

The land is prepared well by thorough ploughing or digging. Lime or dolomite @ 1-3 Kg/cent has to be applied depending on soil acidity. This should be followed by adding organic manure @ 100 Kg/cent along with top soil.

Ridges of about 20 cm height are to be taken, 45 cm apart. The ideal plant to plant spacing is 10 cm apart on the rows.

Carrot is a direct sown crop. The seed is mixed with fine sand and sown in rows.

Apply recommended basal dose of fertilizers at the time of planting. A time lag of ten days should be given between application of lime and fertilizers.
