Beet root-Harvest and storage

Beet root reaches harvesting stage within 60-75 days of sowing. The ideal stage for maturity is attained when the diameter of roots is 3-5 cm.

The roots are harvested before the development of spongy tissue within the roots. Over matured and oversized tubers become woody and should be removed.

A light irrigation should be given before harvesting to facilitate lifting of roots. The plants are normally pulled by hand and the tops are removed.
