Chethikoduveli- Planting activities

Chethikoduveli is propagated through stem cuttings. The ideal time for planting is June-July.

The shoots are collected from the existing crop at the end of first year and used for new planting. 2-3 noded stem cuttings are ideal.

Tender and over mature stem portions are discarded. Cuttings are planted in nursery beds of convenient length and 1 meter width for rooting.  Dipping in IBA (0.5ml/ liter of water) promotes rooting.

Prepare the land to a good tilth by ploughing two or three times. Lime or dolomite has to be applied in acid soils two weeks ahead of fertilizer application.

Make ridges of about 30 cm height and 50 cm apart for planting rooted cuttings. Organic manure @ 40 kg/cent is added at planting time.

The planting is done on ridges. Two to three month old rooted cuttings are planted at a spacing of 15 cm.

The first dose of fertilizers has to be applied at the time of planting.
