Chinaaster- Variety information

Comet: It is a variety of chinaaster recommended for cultivation in Kerala. It produces large, double blooms of a quilled petal type in a host of bright colours.

Kamini: It is a variety released from IIHR, Banglore.  This variety produces deep pink colored flowers more attractive than the local pink variety. It takes 138 days to flower and grows to about 60 cm. It has a stalk length of 30 cm and a vase life of 8 days. Flowers are 6 cm in diameter and weight 2 gm each. Each plant produces about 50 flowers. It has 30 cm stalk length and vase life of a flower is about 8 days.

Ostrich Plume: It is a variety of chinaaster recommended for cultivation in Kerala. Height: 18 inches. Blooms July to October. Useful for cut flower or garden display. Colors: white, rose, purple, blue and scarlet.

Poornima: It is a variety released from IIHR, Banglore. The flowers are pure white and are of powdery puff type. It takes 105 days to flower and grows to about 50 cm height. Flower diameter is 5 cm. The plant produces 25 flowers and individual flower weight 3.5 gm. It has a stalk length of 25 cm and vase life of 7 days.

Sasank: It is a variety released from IIHR, Banglore. The flowers are powdery puff type and creamy white in colour. It bears flowers 124 days after sowing. Plant height is 55 cm. Flower size is 6 cm and weight is 2.5 gm. It produces about 45 flowers. It has 25 cm stalk length and a vase life of 9 days.

Violet cushion: It is a variety released from IIHR, Banglore.  Its flowers are violet and are superior to the local violet variety. It produces pompon type of flowers having 4-5 rows of ray florets with tubular disc florets. It flowers are 4.5 cm in diameter and weighs 2 g each. It has a stalk length of 20 cm and a vase life of 8 days. It is a floriferous variety and produces 70 flowers a plant.
