French bean- Planting activities

French bean is propagated through seed. The recommended seed rate is 32 kg/acre for hilly areas and 20 kg/acre for plain areas.

Light sandy-loam to clayey-loam soils with good drainage is best suited for the crop.

Prepare land thoroughly by ploughing. Raised beds are not essential for bush beans. For pole beans, raised beds are advantageous.

Organic manure @ 80 kg/cent is added to the soil before planting. The seeds are dibbled into hole made on the beds. The recommended spacing is 30 cm x 20 cm.

Apply recommended basal dose of fertilizers at the time of planting. A time lag of ten days should be given between application of lime and fertilizers.
