Gooseberry-Harvest and storage

Gooseberry reaches harvesting stage by 3-4 years after planting. For yield stabilization the plant takes around 10-12 years. The normal period of harvest is from January-February.

Harvest the fruits when color changes to light green. Some varieties show pink blush colour for fruits at maturity. The fruits are picked when berries are still firm.

Harvesting is usually done during the early or in the late hours of the day. The fruits are harvested by shaking the plant and spreading a net at the ground. Delay in harvesting results in heavy dropping of fruits.

The harvested berries can be stored for 2 weeks without much damage.
