Gooseberry-Inter cultivation

The growth of main stem without branches should be ensured up to 1 meter height. In the subsequent years, 4-6 branches should be allowed to develop.

All the sprouts from rootstock should be nipped off then and there. The unwanted branches are pinched off during March-April.

As per growth habit, shedding of all determinate shoots encourages new growth in coming season. Along with the new growth in spring, flowering commences.

During early stages of crop growth inter crops like cow pea and green gram can be grown up to 4–5 years.

During early stages of establishment, the plants should be given periodic irrigation. Fully mature trees are seldom watered. However, irrigation during April-June at 15 days interval encourage fruit set and prevent fruit drop.
