Sapota-Inter cultivation

Apply the fertilizers in two equal split doses, the first during May-June and the second during August-September. Apply the manures and fertilizers in trenches 30 cm deep taken at a distance of 1 metre from the base of the tree.

Legumes and short duration vegetable crops can be raised as intercrop during pre-bearing stage. Raising of intercrop serve as additional income and enriches the soil fertility by fixing the atmospheric nitrogen.

For higher productivity remove the rootstock sprouts, water shoots, criss-cross and lower branches. In old trees, lower branches need to be removed up to 1 metre height.

Irrigate copiously immediately after planting and on the third day and once in 10 days afterwards till the graft establishes. Hereafter, irrigation may not be necessary except during hot summer.
