Beet root- Planting activities
Beet root is propagated through seeds. The recommended seed rate is 2.8 to 3.2 kg/acre. The best season of planting is August to November in high ranges.
The land is prepared well by thorough ploughing or digging. Lime or dolomite @ 1-3 Kg/cent has to be applied depending on soil acidity. This should be followed by adding organic manure @ 80 kg/cent.
The planting is done on ridges. Ridges of about 20 cm height are to be taken 45 cm apart.
Beet root is a direct sown crop. The seed is mixed with fine sand and sown in rows. The ideal plant to plant spacing is 10 cm in a row.
Apply recommended basal dose of fertilizers at the time of planting. A time lag of ten days should be given between application of lime and fertilizers.
