Green fruited varities

Anjitha: Developed from College of Agriculture, Vellayani of KAU. Inter specific hybridization followed by mutation breeding and selection. High yielding (14.6t/ha), early maturing, YVM resistant variety. Yellow vein mosaic resistant/tolerant, green fruited

Arka Abhay: An inter-specific hybrid. Duration 120-130 days. Plants tall, well branched. Fruits lush green, tender and long. Fruits borne in two flushes. Fruits free from spines having delicate aroma. Good keeping and cooking qualities. Resistant to yellow vein mosaic virus(YVMV) Yield 18 t/ha

Arka Anamika: Released from IIHR, Bangalore. Fruits are borne in two flushes. During first flush, the fruits are borne on the main stem 45-50 days after sowing. During second flush, the fruits are borne on short branches, which sprout from the middle portion of the main stem. Fruits are spineless with 5-6 ridges, delicate aroma and good keeping quality. Resistant to Yellow Vein Mosaic Virus (YVMV). Average yield is 20 t/ha in 130 days.

IARI Selection 2: Green / light green fruited. Fruits green, tender and long (16-20 cm) and 5 ridged.

Kiran: Developed from College of Agriculture, Vellayani of KAU. Green / light green fruited. Shy branching plant with light green and long fruits; Fruit length 2-30 cm; Fruit weight 25-30 g; Productivity 11.21 t/ha.

Manjima: Hybrid developed from College of Agriculture, Vellayani of KAU. Green fruited.  High yielding (16t/ha), early maturing, YVM resistant variety.

Pusa Makhmali: Released by IARI, New Delhi. Variety produces light green fruits. Highly susceptible to Yellow Vein Mosaic Virus (YVMV).

Pusa Sawani: Released by IARI, New Delhi. It is suitable for cultivating in spring, summer and rainy season. Fruits are dark green, smooth with 5 ridges and about 10-12 cm long at the marketable stage. Crop matures within 50 days from sowing. Average yield is 12-15 t/ha. Susceptible to Yellow Vein Mosaic Virus (YVMV).

Salkeerthi: Developed from COH, Vellanikkara of KAU. Green / light green fruited. Attractive and long light green fruits; Fruit length 24-30 cm; No of ridges on fruit 5; Days to first harvest  44; Productivity 16.2 t/ha.

Susthira: Developed from COH, Vellanikkara of KAU. Yellow vein mosaic resistant/tolerant, green fruited. Late and long duration variety suitable for homesteads during kharif season.  Fruits green coloured; Fruit length: 22 cm; No. of ridges on fruit 5; Productivity 18 t/ha.

Red fruited varities

Aruna: Developed from COH, Vellanikkara of KAU. Crop duration 120 days. Attractive red coloured long fruits; Fruit length; 25-30 cm; No. of ridges on fruit 7; Productivity 15.8 t/ha.

Co-1: Red fruited It is a pureline selection from the ‘Red Wonder’ introduced from Hyderabad. It is susceptible to yellow vein mosaic disease. The pods are slender, smooth, fleshy, linear and tender at edible stage. The average yield per plant is 20 pods weighing 300 g. It yields 12 tonnes per hectare. The crop duration is 90 days and 15-18 harvests can be done.
