Guava-Harvest and storage
Guava starts bearing at an early age of 2-3 years. The full bearing capacity is reached at the age of 8-10 years. The fruits take around 140 to 160 days after flowering to get mature. The fruits are harvested throughout the year.
The harvesting stage is indicated by the change of fruit colour to pale green or yellow. The fruit becomes soft, and a slight depression develops near the stalk end.
Another noticeable feature is the disappearance of ridges on the fruit and the fruit comes more or less round. Fruits are harvested selectively by hand along with the stalk and leaves.
For local markets, fully yellow but firm fruits are harvested, whereas half yellow fruits are picked for distant markets. The fruits develop best flavour and aroma only when they ripen on tree.
