Holostemma- Planting activities
Holostemma is propagated by stem cuttings and also by seeds. Rainfed crop is planted with the onset of monsoon in May-June. Irrigated crop can be planted any time.
The seeds are collected from the plant in November- December before being dispersed. Seeds are cleaned, dried and stored for sowing.
The stored seeds after soaking in water for 4-5 hours are sawn on seedbeds. About 1-1.5 month old seedlings are ready for transplanting.
Plough the field to good tilth. Remove all pebbles and stones. Incorporate FYM or organic manure @ 80 kg/cent.
Pits of 30cm3 size are taken at a spacing of 60 cm x30 cm distance and filled with 10 kg dried cow dung and top soil.
The pits are later transformed to mound. Seedlings are transplanted on to the mounds from the poly bags carefully.
The basal fertilizers have to be applied at planting time.
