Tamarind- Planting activities
Tamarind is propagated through seeds and also by grafting and budding. The ideal time of planting is June to November.
Healthy seeds are sown in poly bags and seedlings are transplanted at 40-60 cm height. Due to erratic bearing of seedling progenies, grafts and buds are widely used.
Side grafting, inarching and patch budding are commonly practiced. Budding is done on nine month old saplings for higher success.
Plants of 40-60 cm height are planted during June to November at 10 m x 10 m spacing in pits of 1 m3 size incorporated with 15 kg of FYM.
The planting is done at the center of the pit. Regular watering till the plants establish in the field is a must.
