Turmeric-Harvest and storage

Turmeric will be ready for harvesting in about 7 to 9 months after planting. The aromatic types mature in about 7 months and the long duration types in about 9 months. The medium maturity types mature in about 8 months.

Drying of leaves is an indication of harvesting time. The dry leaves are cut close to the ground. The land is irrigated, if needed before harvest.

Harvesting is done by digging the rhizomes out. In case of crop in ridges, ploughing between the rows is adopted.

The harvested rhizome is cured to retain colour and quality. Curing consist of boiling the rhizomes for 30-45 minutes and then drying for 10-12 days.

Ragi-Harvest and storage
